My final artefact will be a film review done by a fictional critic and posted in a fictional magazine, I want to make this a positive review that highlights my aims and intentions for the film

artefact

For my second artefact I want to do a film interview, it will be with the director (me) and a fictional interviewer and will be "featured" in an already known film magazine.

artefact

I want to make my first artefact a film poster.  A very basic poster that doesn't give away too much of the plot, it will have the name of the film on it and a relevant picture.

character bio

Annie
The main focus, an average teenager.  Annie lives with her mother, has a boyfriend and her father died when she was younger.  Annie watches the film 2012 and becomes unnerved by the research she discovers into the Mayan Calender and decides that she wants to end her life before it is "ended for her"

James
Only features in one shot and is the boyfriend of Annie, he doesn't know about her plans and is unaware of what she is going to do.

Mother
Is only mentioned in the voiceover, she is Annies mother and again is not aware of what Annie plans to do.

Script

Annie (Voiceover)
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act; truer words have never been spoken.  Most people don't appreciate honesty and trust and they will take it for granted.  I'm trying to put truth onto paper and be as honest as I can.  I'm not ready.  Here I am pen to paper, needle to arm.  I spent so long planning this out.  I don't want you to be lost like I am.  The Worlds spinning so fast I just can't keep up, everyone seems fulfilled but me, everyone knows where they're going.  I don't want to stay here and see if I make it.  What if you don't, what if you leave me here I couldn't cope, you're stronger than I am, you've dealt with so much more.  I think that this is the only way to find myself again, just think I'll be with Dad soon I'll be able to help him watch over you.  To James.  A few days ago, we kissed in the snow, time slowed down and the World just stopped.

audience research 2

This is what i discovered from my research

The film would mainly be enjoyed by people between 15-35, who were female.  There was a mixed feeling over the film but the ideas that won the vote were:
Voiceover
Both (clear-meaning or a meaning you have to think about)
Abstract
Enjoy
No
One common theme throughout the questionnaires was the fact that they wanted to see a happy moment mixed in with the clear sad meaning, they wanted me to add more impact to the feelings of the audience by showing that Annie is just an average teenager.

After showing them my completed film the audience answered:

Yes
Yes
Yes

Overall, I feel that my film had a positive audience response post-production and pre-production it gave me a clearer insight into what my audience wanted to see.

audience research (Questionnaire)

These are the questions I wanted my audience to answer in order to help me decide how to best portray my film.

Firstly I want to find out the audience ages so that I can see which age group my film would be most successful with so I know who to aim it at.

Then, I want to find out with which gender my film will be most successful with.

Once I have clarified who it is best to aim my film at I then want to find out how it would be best to portray the story and which style would best communicate my aim with the audience.  This is an example of the kind of questionnaire I will hand-out to my test group.

Research In International Audiences

I have conducted research into International Audiences in order to determine if my media piece can be branched out to more than just an English-speaking dominated audience, I first had to research into which countries the film 2012 was broadcast as this film links strongly with the my film as there is a lot of intertextual references.  The countries I have found it was distributed in and most popular with are:

  • Buglaria
  • Greece
  • Malaysia
  • Taiwan
  • USA

So, I know that my film could be shown in these countries and they would have access to the intertextual references used.  I also discovered that the film 2012 was actually banned in North Korea, this means that releasing the film in N. Korea would be in-effective as it is legal to view the film or even to own a copy.  This means that in turn the references in my film would not be understood and has the potential to also be banned as it places a negative spin on the year 2012 (which is why it was banned in N. Korea as it is the 100th anniversary of Kim ll-sung)
